Course Overview:-
- Have you ever taken a tablet, capsule or syrup? Yes! But who made and dispensed it? The Pharmacist, the most respectable professional globally. As a profession, Pharmacy is a part of health care. Pharmacy has been an ancient profession and it has undergone many changes as it evolved. The research for new medicines and manufacturing remains to be a specialization of highly qualified Pharmacy professionals holding graduate, postgraduate and Doctoral degrees. But to dispense these medicines, in drug stores or hospitals, requires a Pharmacist who has at least Diploma in Pharmacy (D.Pharm.) qualification and is a Registered Pharmacist.
- Thus, D. Pharm. becomes minimum qualification for registration as a Pharmacist in the country. The retail pharmacy (Drug Stores , Medical Shop or community Pharmacy) can only be run legally by person having Diploma or higher qualification in Pharmacy. Pharmacists have specialized knowledge of manufacturing, usage, monitoring adverse effect, incompatibilities of medicines. Pharmacist can be a link between DOCTOR & PATIENT.
- The knowledge and expertise required is gained from the course "Diploma in Pharmacy". It includes 2 years of education and pre-registration training of 500 hours to register with Pharmacy Council as a Registerd Pharmacist. D. Pharm course is oriented to understand good dispensing practice & patient care. Diploma course in Pharmacy help the person for making career in field of Pharmacy.

The environment depends on the type of career chosen. In a Drug Store set ups, the Pharmacist is mainly involved in processing of prescriptions and sale of medicines and other related jobs such as billing, inventory etc . Now with the changing scenario world wide, Pharmacist is also expected to provide patient counselling about diseases/drugs and other patient care services.In a Hospital Pharmacy, the pharmacist dispenses the drugs to admitted patients (In-patients) as well as to the OPD (Out Patient Department) patient.MedicalRepresentative (M.R.) career involves extensive field work in which the M.
