Diploma in Civil Engineering.

Duration:-
3 Year Full Time after S.S.C. (Semister pattern.)

Admission Eligibility:-

• S.S.C. Passed with 50% of marks for open category and 45% marks for reserved category students, for First Year.
• H.S.C. VOC.(Tech.)/ MCVC passed in related vocation or ITI,NCVT passed in related trade, for direct admission to 2nd year.

Civil Engineering is considered as one of the oldest engineering disciplines. It involves planning, designing and executing structural work. The profession deals· with the wide variety of tasks, including designing, supervision and construction activities of public works like roads, bridges, tunnels, buildings, airports, Dams, water works, sewage system ports etc. and offers a multitude of challenging career opportunities.

A civil engineer is responsible for planning and designing a project, constructing the project to the required scale and maintenance of the assets. A civil engineer requires not only a high standard of engineering knowledge, but also supervisory and administrative skills. The planning part of their work involves site investigations, feasibility studies, creating solutions to complications that may occur and the actual designing of structures. They have to work with the guidelines of the local Govt. authority and get plans approved by the relevant authority. They prepare cost estimates and sets construction schedules. Construction work involves dealing with clients, architects, Govt. officials, contractors and the supervision of the work according to standard.

Their work also involves the maintenance and repair of the project.

• Draftsman in construction and architectural firm working with computer aided drawing packages.
• Assist to designer / Investigator III engineering consulting firms, assisting in design aspects of various structures.
• Surveyor / Supervise or on construction site looking after construction processes, dimensional control, quality control and finishing of different components of structure.
• Assist to designer / Investigator Research & Development technician in laboratories 10 conduct experiments and note down observation for analysis of components of structure .
• Sales Engineer in marketing of civil engineering materials, products, Instruments & machinery.
•  Installation Engineer for Landscape and Micro irrigation systems.
• Supervisor in Ready-mix concrete plants, pre-cast engineering products and pre-engineered buildings.

Carrer Opportunities :-

• Work as a supervisor/Overseer/Junior Engineer in government or private firms. The network of highways and railways is under expansion where there is demand of & Civil Engineers. MHADA is taking up the work of slum rehabilitation by constructing housing colonies which requires civil engineers.
• Register himself as a contractor with CPWD, Railways, Water supply & Irrigation department, CIDCO, PWD, MHADA, and Municipal corporations Etc .
• A licensed surveyor in private and government firms.
• An entrepreneur and start his own business in construction work.

Work Environment :-

• Basically a civil engineer has to work on site for supervision, achieving quality control and execution of various civil works in extreme weather conditions. But at times he has to work in office also for doing planning and designing, estimating & Tendering or doing liasoning work.
• He has to prepare layouts of building or ammonia prints of different structural drawings of various civil engineering structures.

• Civil engineering is a vast field that includes career prospects in the field of structures, geo technical engineering, transportation engineering, and environmental engineering and water resources. A civil engineer has a challenging and extremely satisfying role in the society. He has the opportunity to help his fellow men both in our country and through out the world by improving the living standards and quality of life of the population.
  He is responsible for improving the facilities and systems that make up the civil infrastructure. The important facilities include, buildings, bridges, roads, dams, railways and air ports. The critical systems include Transportation Networks, Water and Power Distribution Systems and Environment Protection Systems. A civil engineer is responsible for designing, constructing and operating these improved facilities and systems .
  
• A civil engineer is a master builder who creates structures, projects and systems which are timeless symbol of our civilization.           
  
• Advancement opportunities exist in government and private sectors. A diploma holder may start as a supervisor but based on his experience and performance can rise to the level of a project manager.
